		Malfunctions 1, 2, 4, and 5 were repaired with onboard means and shipyard assistance.
	It makes sense for the deep diving test to be completed in the homeland.

02.00 - 12.00		Boat runs 10--20 meters above the bottom. During the entire period destroyers and corvettes all around most with saw, all with Asdic. Mainly 5-7 sound bearings at the same time. Boat was directly overrun 6 times, 2 times while doing so destroyers turned the circular saw off directly over the boat, so that Asdic impulses can be heard loudly in the boat.
	It is believed that the enemy carried out the following procedures during the search.
	a) At the torpedo shots on 21 and 22 December there was no noticeable strengthening of the surveillance; evidently the enemy was not prepared for U-boats directly off the harbor.
	b) After the attack on 24 December as soon as 1-1/4 hours after the shot the first half dozen patrol vessels with steam propulsion were over the sinking location which was 15 nm from Halifax. Apparently this time the vessels lay in immediate readiness.
	c) In the period up to darkness the shooting location and the immediate vicinity was intensively searched with Asdic, however there were a relatively small number of depth charges (about 100 units) more or less randomly thrown. Not finding the boat is primarily due to the fact that there was a very irregular, rocky bottom.
	d) Because the boat was not detected up to darkness, search was carried out in a circle around the shooting location. The radius of the circle constantly increased corresponding fairly well with the plotted submerged speed. On this circle the patrol vessels followed so closely after one another that in some cases despite evasive maneuvers one could not prevent the boat from being overrun. The largest circle reached a radius of 15-20 nm.
	Summary: The defenses were well organized, however the destroyers and corvettes inexperienced; the boat was not detected even once.
