Statements Signed by Henke and the Crew of U-515
Captain Gallery, of the Guadalcanal,
convinced Kapitanleutnant Henke to sign this statement to avoid being imprisoned
in England |
Captain Gallery showed Henke's
signed statement to U-515's crew and had them sign this similar statement
- the crew was unusually cooperative with interrogators |
It is unclear wether or not Henke signed this statement while in at Fort Hunt, an interrogation center outside Washington DC. It may be a forgery used to convince his crew to cooperate with interrogators. Henke recanted his original statement and was said to be a very security concious prisoner. Henke committed suicide on June 15, 1944 by trying to climb the fence at Ft Hunt. He was shot by a prison guard. |
